Golden Gates
« Return to Projects | ||
The Golden gates and lanterns at Benmore Botanic Gardens were commissioned in Berlin in 1871, exhibited at the Paris exhibition before being erected at Benmore for the Greenock sugar baron and philanthropist James Duncan. The gates, having fallen in to disrepair were removed in the 1990s and put in to storage while funding could be sought for the repairs required. They have now been brought back to their former glory by Currie Blacksmiths in a very time consuming but also very satisfying contract. See an artical on the project here |
